Summary
In H2 2023, Spotify started a “Shipping Our Expertise” initiative, in which internal tools are evolved and packaged into commercial Developer Experience plugins. I led the design for Spotify’s first foray into commercializing its Data Management tools, establishing processes, strategy and vision, as well as shipping MVPs for alpha customers.

Data Entity Taxonomy
Terminologies in the data domain can be overloaded and differ depending on the product and users’ background. To (1) minimize ambiguity between internal tool’s terminologies and market standard terms, and (2) improve efficiency of internal collaborations, I proposed a standardized taxonomy for data entities.
Taxonomy Artifact
Data Registry
A plugin that serves as a “single source of truth” that represents the users’ data ecosystem. It syncs with users Data Warehouses & Lakes, and allows users to efficiently search and manage metadata of their datasets.
Data Lineage
A plugin that allows users to trace the ancestry and downstream usage of their datasets. It helps users understand the usage of their datasets and troubleshoot data incidents effectively.
