Hyper Body

What possibilities emerge from extending ourselves via social & digital media? What kind of dialogue happens between the digital and the physical body?

When I see funny memes on my feed, I don’t just type “LOL”; I also physically chuckle. When people made mean comments online, I physically feel heaviness in my chest. In this project, I want to put merge my physical self and my social-digital self.

I made a series of programs that allows viewers of my Facebook livestream physically affect my body via comments. Comments on a livestream are stored and parsed into serial data, which in turn activate TENS Units, sending electrical signals to my muscles.
